Where was PePe born…?
Early 2022…
Originally called Elder’s Chilli, the venture was sparked by the desire to bottle a feeling. The one where food isn’t just eaten, it’s shared. It was about paying homage to the matriarchs, the uncles, the neighbours, and the gatherings that turned simple meals into cultural moments. At its heart was a single truth: food equals family, and spice equals story.
As the idea matured, so did its identity. The name PePe; a colloquial West African term for chilli came to the surface. It was sharper, more rooted, more culturally alive. It wasn’t just a product pivot; it was a return home. PePe became the symbol for everything the sauce had always stood for: heat, humour, heritage.
PePe began with a memory. A kitchen alive with heat, laughter, and love. Before it had a name, it was a sauce passed down through hands and heart, crafted from West African spices and stirred into the rhythm of home. It wasn’t just about flavour. It was about presence. Dinner had it’s own identity; it’s aroma was a hello I couldn’t wait to greet.
Hi, my name is Emmanuel
…and welcome to my crazy idea: PePe. What started as a home recipe rooted in West African tradition has grown into something bigger than I could’ve imagined. A bold, seasoned and flavoured sauce that’s just as much about culture, art, and community as it is about heat. PePe isn’t just a condiment. It’s a conversation. A collectible. A movement.
From city streets to shared tables, we’re building something spicy, soulful, and beautifully unexpected. Thanks for being here :)
